Welcome to the all new Soccer Cards HQ. 2021-22 Panini Donruss Soccer Road To Qatar will forever be known to me as the site that launched this site. The presale and release of this product were so ridiculous (story included at the bottom of the page for those interested) I finally decided to build a site dedicated to informing soccer collectors to be better able to make decisions about what they buy. If you like geeky facts about set and box makeup this is the site for you.

On to the product. 2021-22 Panini Donruss Soccer Road To Qatar was hyped for months since the sales sheet came out showing there would be Kabooms in the product. Kabooms are one of if not the hottest subsets in the hobby right now. There was also the huge success of the 2018 Donruss product that had people really looking forward to this set. That 2018 set was loaded with Rated Rookies that have gone on to great things; Foden, Vinicius Jr, Davies to name a few. The MBappe’s from this set also performed really well.

Now that the product is out and we have a checklist we can see that this product is likely nowhere near as good as 2018. To start with the Rated Rookie list is very underwhelming. The prospect doing the best is Gabriel Martinelli. The problem is he has EPL stickers starting in 2019 as well as Adrenalyn. He got his first premium cards in 2020-2021 Topps Chrome Merlin. This is his first premium Panini card so I guess that was their justification for making him a Rated Rookie. There are a couple good young defenders and a few Americans that may or may not make the US World Cup team. The other thing the rookies in this set have going against them is that most are already over 21 years old. While that is not old in the real world it is pretty old for the hobby to have a breakout start that is 22 or older.

The Kaboom list is loaded and there are a few good autos. You get 1 Kaboom per case and 1 auto per box. There are some Panini Points in place of autos as well. Outside of Kabooms and autos you will likely need to hit an Optic parallel of the hobby superstars to have a potential $100+ card. Each box only has 2 numbered Optic parallels so the odds are small on that. As of right now a Messi /199 Optic just sold for $76. Panini lists 12 Optic parallels on the box marketing but 10 are basic holos. Net Marvels were a highly anticipated insert based on their success in other sports. There appear to be 8 in each hobby box so there will be plenty of them. The checklist is also considered pretty weak.

2021-2022 Donruss Road To Qatar Overview

Hobby Box Makeup – 1 Auto and 1 Memorobilia card per hobby box. 1/12 chance for a Kaboom.
There are calculated to be roughly 2800 hobby cases based on watching breaks and seeing 2 numbered Optics per box. Panini does not provide pack odds so we must guesstimate on this.
The following Optic parallels are in hobby boxes; Holo, Red, Blue, Orange Velocity, Black Velocity, Gold Vinyl.
The following Donruss parallels are in hobby boxes Press Proof Gold, Press Proof Purple, Red Laser, Blue Laser, Gold Laser, Black Laser. There is a pic of hobby packs below that shows the full makeup including autos.

Kaboom Print Run – 140 per player based on calculated case odds. There are no numbered or parallel Kabooms.

Retail Products – Fat packs and blaster boxes.

Blaster boxes contact 11 packs of 8 cards. Each pack has 6 base Donruss, 1 Optic and 1 Donruss Insert (Pitch Kings, Rookie Kings, Elite Series, Power In The Box or The Rookies). The Donruss Holo Orange Laser and Optic Red Velocity exclusive to the blaster and from what we have seen you get at least 1 of each per blaster. You also appear to get 1 Optic Holo per blaster. The Donruss Holo Purple /99 and Optic Purple Velocity /99 are exclusive to blasters but you are not guaranteed to hit either. There are Press Proofs of the inserts with a 1/1 being the only numbered possibility. Signature Series Green and Beautiful Game Green autos are also possible in blasters but not guaranteed.

The Fat packs have 19 base Donruss cards, 3 Optic cards, 2 subsets that were listed above in the blaster box breakdown and 1 of the following Donruss Green Laser, Optic Green Velocity, Holo or Pink Velocity. There are Press Proofs of the inserts with a 1/1 being the only numbered possibility. Signature Series Green and Beautiful Game Green autos are also possible in fat packs but not guaranteed.

There is an Optic Red& Gold parallel /8 which leads us to believe there will be a TMall product as well.

No retail contains Kabooms.

BGS – Will be added once cards start grading.
PSA – Will be added once cards start grading.

Soccer Cards HQ Final Takeaway: Kabooms are the main hit and falling 1 in every 12 boxes. The auto checklist has some very high end (Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo, Beckham) but plenty we have seen before. The rookie list has little potential which means these boxes are very high risk depending on what you pay for them. If you didn’t get FOMO and buy day 1 for $500 you made a good decision.

20 Piotr Zielinski – Poland

The backstory promised above. These boxes were supposedly allocated between $100-$150. The first sites to list hobby boxes for sale were selling for $250-$300. Then Blowout decided to list theirs for $1000. This seemed to make others raise their prices to $500+. A day before release Panini listed a price of $500 and a checklist which included some very sought after autos including Haaland and Rashford. There was also a Private Signings checklist with some big names that some though could be on card since that is the case in other sets. After the checklist was out for a few hours Panini changed the checklist on their site and got rid of 3 subset autograph checklists including Private Signings. The next day Panini released on the site at $500 and the product sat for days. It now shows as sold out but they could have done that to create false demand and just decided to sell to distributors. As of the time of this writing the boxes are down to $350 on StockX.

We encourage everyone to watch a break before they buy anything if possible. That way you know what to expect.
