I apologize for the 2024-25 Panini Select La Liga review coming a little late. It was a combination of Panini not releasing the checklist and me having to travel. This year’s release has been kind of a dud becuase it released the same day as 2024-25 Topps Chrome UEFA. Funny enough last year’s product released the same day as 2023-24 Topps Finest UEFA and 2023-24 Donruss Soccer so it suffered a bit on release as well. If you have opened Panini Select soccer card products the last couple of years, then you are already familiar with this year’s product as it has a pretty similar makeup. I would suggest reading the 2022-23 Select La Liga review as it goes more into the product breakdown if you aren’t familiar. The print runs have gone up so the numbers aren’t exactly the same. Take a look at the review and see what you can expect for the 2024-25 release.

SoccerCardsHQ Review – The first two years of Panini Select La Liga have been smash hits. That is because of the low prints runs and some incredible checklists. 2024-25 Panini Select La Liga still has a reasonable print run, but the checklist is far inferior to the past years. There are no Lamine Yamal rookie cards and there are no Lionel Messi cards. Add to that the rookie class isn’t very good and you have a big problem. Panini could’ve done the funniest thing and put a RC on Endrick to get more value out of the product.
Panini brought back the 4 case hits that you should be used to in Select. Stained Glass is usually the standout case hit. I will be interested to see how the hobby responds to this year’s design. The Stained Glass (Search On Ebay) checklist is about as good as they could do without putting former players who aren’t current coaches in. They did include Carlo Ancelotti and Diego Simeone. The print run this year is ~41 so still pretty SP. Visionary (Search On Ebay) and Artistic Impressions (Search On Ebay) are two case hits that I never felt got enough love. I am not sure if that ever changes, but I like picking up some of the big players when the chance is there. It’s more because I love rarity than anything. Neither checklist has Lamine Yamal this year and to be honest both checklists aren’t that great. There are ~50 of each this year. Club Badges are back for another year and there are ~62 of those.
The auto checklist is pretty rough as well. Lamine Yamal (Search On Ebay) and Kylian Mbappe (Search On Ebay) only feature once. Yamal only has a patch auto. If a breaker yells loud enough I guess they could make Mbappe first year autos a thing, but with the way the Real Madrid season went maybe not. Of course, that wasn’t exactly Mbappe’s fault. There are plenty of retired player autos highlighted by Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham. A couple of the best rookies get autos, but they’re defensive type players so they aren’t really going to move the needle. Select patch cards never do all that well. Mostly because the good ones aren’t associated with anything. There are some good teammate combos on the dual list at least.
I put the above tweet out on release day as I knew I wasn’t going to be able to do a full review, and I didn’t want people to get burned at the $370 per box hobby price. It’s a good thing I did because at the time of writing this just one week later box prices are down $100. I guess the set will be carried by 2nd year Lamine Yamal cards which I can’t really get excited about, but if you do then collect what you like. You will still get lots of low numbered cards if you open hobby boxes so that will feel OK. It just felt a lot better in past years when you had an even better chance and there was way more to hit. I would be surprised if the hobby boxes fall too much further because of the print run. At least you will have a way better chance of hitting a low numbered Lamine Yamal than in most 2024-25 soccer card products.
