Soccer Cards HQ Review – The first thing that popped out to me about 2024-25 Topps Chrome Bundesliga, besides some hilarious and questionable insert designs, was the reduced print run. I often joke on this set, but I give Topps credit for realizing the demand and adjusting down. That is not something they often do. They also provide a lot of color which makes 2024-25 Topps Chrome Bundesliga a fun sweat even if you don’t hit. Lastly collect what you like and I know there are some people that really enjoy this set.
The base set is only 100 cards which is great but there isn’t a lot of meat. Most of the new noteworthy rookies, that aren’t also in the UEFA products, don’t really play hobby positions. The base checklist is also all current Bundesliga players so you’re going to have to hit pretty low to make a big difference. The base design and color does look nice so it does have that going for it. The Unbeaten Variations (Search On Ebay) is a real nice touch by Topps. It features 15 of the 2022-23 Bayern Leverkusen players. They are either numbered to 34 (the amount of league games) or 1. You will hit these about 1 in 5 cases. These should be a great chase for Leverkusen collectors.
The inserts are an absolute mixed bag from pretty cool to did the design team get drunk at a Rainforest Cafe and come up with some of these. Let’s start with the cool. The Diamond Etch (Search On Ebay) cards look great and more importantly they have color parallels. They are case hits and can be hit in both hobby and blasters. The base will have a print run of ~140. Hobby Masters (Search On Ebay) are pretty cool as always but Topps didn’t make any color again for another miss on these. The print run will be ~170. History Is Now (Search On Ebay) are a cool concept and design which has autos as well. These cards feature former Bundesliga players matched with a similar current player. This is a set where Topps could really lean on the former players to give a chase. I do find it funny that Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have a card where Haaland is more in the role of the older player and Kane is the new guy. Top XI (Search On Ebay) is back and look good this year. I also think the Buzz cards have a design design and look great in the different colors. The problem is the checklist is brutal. One of the biggest chases in the product will be the Meisterschale Trophy 1/1 (Search On Ebay). Topps is going to ride the trophy train for a long time I have a feeling.
OK those were the good now let’s get to the ridiculous. To be honest maybe they are so bad they will prove to be good. I have seen that play out before in the hobby. First off we have Wild Jungle which are cards that maybe could fit in a set from a different place like say Brasileirao Serie A. Last I checked there was no jungle or even a Rainforest Cafe in Germany. I’d love to know the thought process here. There are unnumbered animal parallels so here are the print runs. Chameleon ~225, Cobra ~115 Tiger ~90, Leopard ~75 and Lion ~60 (Search On Ebay). After coming up with the totally out of place masterpiece they chewed on some ideas and came up with First Taste (Search On Ebay). These are die cut cards that look like someone took a bite out of the top corner. It’s a rookie type insert so the get a taste of the league idea makes sense…….but they designed the card with tomatoes and pasta!!!! “It’s not about the pasta!!” (sorry if you don’t get that reference. These inserts have me off the rails) That’s right they decided they couldn’t let this perfectly good Italian Serie A go to waste since they don’t have the license. Ironically both of these inserts would be perfectly fine in a Serie A league. Is Topps sending us hidden messages of what’s to come??? Probably not but it’s just too hilarious.
The autos like the base set are very top heavy. There are actually more base autos than base cards. The good news is they are all numbered. There are some cool combo autos where they use old Bundesliga players to give a chase. Sadly only 1 of the 6 duals (not including History Is Now) and 2 of the 8 triples have players from the same team. Usually that is where you can get some great chase cards and Topps has been better about that in UEFA. There are case hit autos called Verve. This are ultra thick cards that have a 3D effect. Those come 1 in a pack and you will know before opening if you have one. There are 3 1/1 Superfractor product hit autos (Search On Ebay). 1 for Franz Beckenbauer, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz. Those look great and will be a great hit for 3 people.
Overall if you are opening 2024-25 Topps Chrome Bundesliga you probably know what you are getting into. It’s not going to break the bank but it’s also not going to be that lucrative. It’s a collectors type product and that is fine. Topps again listed the boxes for $75 in the US and higher at 80 euros in Germany to really screw the people that likely want it most. I also find it interesting the US site had cases while Germany didn’t. The cases are the only thing that sold out and I can give you one clue as to why. 2023-24 boxes are currently in the $55-60 range and 2022-23 even cheaper. 2024-25 will probably eventually end up lower. If you are opening I hope you hit something good.
